Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns
This recipe is adapted from Tessa @ Handle the Heat.
Serves: 8 buns
  • 3 tablespoons warm milk
  • 235 ml warm water
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 2½ teaspoons sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 egg
  • 250 g bread flour (812)
  • 160 g whole wheat flour
  • 3 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1 egg beaten with water
  • sesame seeds
  1. In your stand mixer with the dough hook, mix together the milk, water, yeast, sugar, salt, and egg.
  2. Start the mixer on low and slowly add the flour. Finally, the butter.
  3. Knead on medium speed for about 8 minutes. The dough will be a bit sticky, but not too much as to where you can't handle it.
  4. Transfer the dough to a oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise for about 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces and gently roll each piece into a ball. Place on a lined baking sheet with baking paper.
  6. Cover with a kitchen towel and let rise again for another 1-2 hours.
  7. Preheat the oven to 200 Celsius or 400 Fahrenheit.
  8. Brush the dough with the beaten egg and water and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  9. Bake for about 20 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool completely.
  10. Serve immediately, or place in the freezer for another date!
